About Saans
Saans means 'breath' in Urdu and Hindi. This is a small, quiet place to take a few breaths when the day is heavy — and nothing more complicated than that.
Why it exists
When people are stressed, worried or overwhelmed, they often have very little attention to spare. Most wellbeing apps ask for an account, a questionnaire, a subscription and a tutorial before anything helpful happens.
Saans tries to do the opposite: open it, choose how you feel, and begin breathing within a few seconds.
Our scientific philosophy
Every exercise uses gentle, slow, ordinary-sized breaths. There are no fast-breathing or breath-holding challenges, and any pause between breaths is optional.
We describe research conservatively. Slow breathing can help some people feel less stressed; the studies are encouraging but mostly small, and no single rhythm has been shown to be best. Each claim on the site is linked to an evidence registry that records the source and how strong it is.
Limitations
Saans is a self-help tool. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it cannot know how you are doing.
Breathing will not solve the causes of stress, and it is not right for everyone. If attention on the breath makes you feel worse, the Look Around exercise offers an outward-focused alternative, and the support page lists people you can reach out to.
Designed with care
The language avoids commands, pressure and forced positivity. There are no streaks, points or reminders implying you have fallen behind.
It is built to work with a screen reader, with reduced motion, without sound, offline, and on small or old phones.
Privacy by design
No account, no login and no tracking. Your preferences and optional practice history stay in your browser on this device.
