Good for
When you like structure and pausing feels comfortable. Not a good first choice if breath holding makes you uneasy.
Rhythm
In 4 · Pause 4 · Out 4 · Pause 4 (pauses optional)
Feel
Steady

Go gently. The pauses are a soft rest, not a tight hold. Keep your throat relaxed. If pausing feels uncomfortable, turn pauses off and it becomes Even Breath. People who are pregnant or have heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions may prefer to leave pauses off.

Want to know why this works?

Box breathing adds short pauses between breaths. It has been studied less than simple slow breathing, and the pauses are not essential to any benefit, so they are always optional here.
